20 Fascinating Facts about the Iconic 'Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet'
People love Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani’s relationship, but the country musician was originally married to Miranda Lambert. They were the biggest couple in that music genre for several years, and plenty was whispered about their separation, especially when he began dating Stefani. His love life took many turns, and divorce was not easy for him. Let’s find out more!
Everyone loves the romance between Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani, especially because they just started as judges on ‘The Voice’. However, both of them were in relationships when they first appeared on the show. The country musician was married to Miranda Lambert, and they were considered one of the best power couples in the music business. What happened?
Lambert and Shelton originally met when they sang ‘You’re the Reason God Made Oklahoma’ at the 2005 CMT 100 Greatest Duets. Both artists were rising in the industry and delivered one of the most memorable performances country fans had ever seen. Soon enough, rumors of a possible relationship began, but no one imagined how far it would go…
It was an instant connection for the artists, as they chatted backstage for a while before getting on stage together. At the time, Shelton was married to Kaynette Williams. So, was romance really on his mind? It shouldn’t have been, but the musician revealed on Lambert’s ‘Behind the Music’, “I’ve never had that kind of experience with anybody.” What did he do next?
Naturally, gossip about a possible romance between them started going around, even when he was still married to Williams. People had seen their amazing chemistry on stage, but it wasn’t until 2006 that the musician separated from his wife that rumors went into overdrive. Everyone wanted to know if he had started dating Lambert. Meanwhile, what was going on with Gwen Stefani back then?
They might have been busy at the time, but it looked like Miranda Lambert was falling for Shelton. However, she maintained his distance because he was married. They respected each other as musicians and kept things platonic. But as Miranda’s career became even bigger, she looked to Blake for support as a friend. That might have been how they fell in love.
Lambert’s life was becoming pretty hectic, but Blake became a great friend for the artist. During her ‘Behind the Music’, Miranda said, “It just felt so great to have somebody that had been through it. Who knew exactly what I was going through.” Anyone would understand how overwhelming it might be. Shelton and Lambert started talking several times a week at the time.
Although Blake and his wife Kaynette were already going through hard times before he met Lambert, everyone thought their separation was because of her. When they officially ended things, Shelton needed a lot of support from his friends, including Miranda. However, they both knew that it would not be appropriate to date.
Although it was not her fault, Miranda felt an incredible amount of guilt over what had happened between Shelton and his former wife. However, her friend Laci Chaney revealed on ‘Behind the Music’ that when they got to spend more time together, the singer understood that she was not the reason for Shelton’s divorce. Soon enough, their feelings became unavoidable.
During the VH1 special, Blake Shelton revealed, “Looking back on [the first performance together], I was falling in love with her, right there on stage.” So, when the musician’s divorce was final, he and Miranda fell deeply in love. Country music lovers couldn’t have been happier, although their relationship was not easy at all. They were two of the most successful in the field and became the genre’s “Power Couple”.
Shelton got to experience Miranda Lambert’s incredible career alongside her. He was there for a bunch of her “firsts” like bowhunting, as he explained on ‘Behind the Music’. Additionally, they were both growing together in their music as well as their personal lives. They were amazing for each other, but it was not perfect.
Although their tour in 2008 had been fantastic, they started having different schedules and activities. Relationships can truly suffer when couples don’t see each other that often. In fact, there were times when Miranda had to go online to see where Blake Shelton would be. That’s not something anyone wants in a commitment.
Although things might have been a bit rocky for the couple, they made it work. Both had trouble with their opposing schedules, and it seemed like their relationship was doomed to fail. However, they wanted to work it out, and in 2011, they walked down the aisle in a gorgeous wedding in Texas. But real life has many twists and turns.
Sadly, they were only married for four years before splitting. The official statement said, “This is not the future we envisioned and it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately.” Fans were terribly sad about their separation, but that’s life. They asked for privacy to get over their situation, but both eventually opened up about what happened.
Although most people believed it was their busy schedules that separated them, that’s not the case. Lambert told E! Online, "Marriage is a tough business, and we gave it our best college try. I met him at 21—I am now almost 32. You change as people. If I'm not a different person than I was at 21, then something's wrong with me.” Two people can grow apart, and marriage won’t work even if there’s love.
The country musician revealed that their marriage ended pretty quickly because they did not have children and a solid prenup. “Once we filed for divorce, it was over in, like, I think it was like a nine or 10-day waiting period until it's over,” he said. Years later, he said that someone else had saved during that dark time.
While Blake and Miranda had their whirlwind relationship, Stefani’s life kept going. She had two more children with Gavin Rossdale, and her career was still going strong. At some point, the singer even reunited with No Doubt for a while. However, there were also rumors about a possible affair Rossdale had. However, they kept things private. Sadly, it would not last.
The same year that Blake married Lambert, he also started appearing on ‘The Voice’ as one of the judges. Gwen Stefani joined the judges in 2014, and after her separation from Rossdale, she also focused on writing the album ‘This is What the Truth Feels Like’. Neither of them knew that the reality competition show would define their future.
Shelton and Stefani were judges on ‘The Voice’ alongside Adam Levine and Pharrell Williams in 2014. They were both going through personal struggles, and it seems that those problems brought them closer. Eventually, history repeated itself, and it was a duet of ‘Endless Love’ that on ‘The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon’ in 2015 that would spark their romance.
Shelton revealed to Billboard that they sat down for a “heart to heart”, and that’s how their relationship started. Now, he opened up about his divorce from Lambert. "I was at rock bottom, in the middle of hell,” he explained. “Gwen saved my life. Who else on earth could understand going through a high-profile divorce from another musician? You can't even imagine the similarities in our divorces." And they have been going strong ever since.
