Becoming a parent is hard at any age, but doing it when you’re a teenager is pretty rough. You might be surprised to learn that some of your favorite celebrities had their kids early in life. Sofia Vergara was a young mother and look at her now. Even classic start Shirley Temple started her family at a young age. Meanwhile, some stars became famous because they were teen moms. EMILY MAYNARD

Maynard is best known from the 8th season of ‘The Bachelorette’, but she was previously on ‘The Bachelor’ as well. But, not many know that at 18, she was engaged to Ricker Hendrick IV, a race car driver that died in a car crash. She was pregnant with his child and had to raise their daughter alone.

NIKI TAYLOR

At the age of 19, Nike and her husband Matt Martinez from the Miami Hooters decided to elope. They shortly welcomed twin sons: Hunter and Jake. Her life has been anything but easy. She almost died in 2001 after a car accident but pulled through after many surgeries. She eventually remarried and had two more kids.

LORETTA LYNN

Lynn had several kids during her teenage years, but she was also from an older time. At the age of 15, she married Oliver Vanetta Lynn. At 16, she had a daughter named Betty Sue. She would go on to have a son, Jack Benny, at 17, and at 19, the singer had her third child, Ernest Ray. Unfortunately, Jack Benny died in 1984, and Betty Sue passed away from emphysema in 2013. The singer had other kids later in life.

MAYA ANGELOU

Naturally, the famous author is also from another time and having a teen pregnancy was not that uncommon. She was 17 in 1944 when her son, Clyde, came alone. Angelou’s own mother was just 13 when she became a parent for the first time. She was her biggest source of support.

CHARLIE SHEEN

With the actor’s rebellious ways, it’s not surprising that he became a parent when he was just 19. His eldest is Cassandra Jade Estevez. Her mother is Paula Profit, who was Sheen’s high school girl. Meanwhile, the actor went on to have two kids with Denise Richards and two more with Brooke Mueller.

T.I.

You might be shocked to learn that the rapper has seven kids with 3 different women, but his eldest is Messiah Ya’Majesty Harris. T.I. was just 19 years old when his son was born. Meanwhile, his daughter, Deyjah, was born just about a year later.

ASIA NITOLLANO

Nitollano is best known for winning ‘Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll’, but she also became a teen mom at the age of 17. Although she joined the group in 2007, Asia eventually left to start her own career. Her website says: “She is now pursuing her solo career as a singer, as well as her dancing career with the mommy-daughter team duo with her daughter Thais.”

You might remember Lozada best from ‘Basketball Wives’, and she is another celebrity on this list that became a mother at 17. The reality star had her daughter, Shaniece, with Jamal Hairston. In 2014, Evelyn had her first son with Carl Crawford.

LAMAR ODOM

Most people know Odom best from his tumultuous relationship with Khloe Kardashian as well as his NBA career. His daughter, Destiny, was born when the basketball star was just 19 years old. Her mother is Liza Morales, who also birthed his other two kids: Jayden and Lamar Jr.

TOM JONES

It’s not that surprising that Jones became a teen parent because he is also from a different time. His son Mark was born when he was just 17 in the late 50s. The singer married his high school sweetheart, Linda Trenchard, when they discovered that she was pregnant.

The Princess of Wales wasn’t exactly like some of the other teen mothers on this list. She was married and got pregnant at the age of 19. Prince William was born when she was already 20 years old. Her life was definitely a privilege but it was not easy at all.

ROD STEWART

Stewart has lived the life of a typical rock star and has been countless women over time. He has eight children in total, but his first was Sarah, who he had at the age of 17 with girlfriend Susannah Boffey. This was the early 60s. The couple decided to give her up for adoption, but Stewart met her when she turned 18.

JOURDAN DUNN

You might Dunn as a model for Maybelline New York, but she is also an actress. She started her modeling career at 15 years old and had her son, Riley, at the age of 19. Dunn told Vogue, “I found out I was pregnant at Heathrow Airport, on my way to a family holiday in Jamaica. I was 18.”

KIM ZOLCIAK-BIERMANN

You might remember her best from ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’, and her feud with NeNe Leaks. She has six children in total, but her first daughter, Brielle, was not planned. However, the reality star doesn’t regret it, as she celebrates her daughter often on Instagram. “My firstborn started it all @briellebiermann a single mom scared to death, with parents who supported me emotionally thank God And a full-time college student attending nursing school,” Zolciak-Biermann wrote.

PATTI SMITH

Patti Smith is still considered one of the most iconic female musicians of all time, but while living in New Jersey, she got pregnant at 19. Her daughter was born on April 26th, 1967. However, the singer decided to give her up for adoption, which is one of the most selfless things you can do.

Vodianova is another supermodel that became a parent at an early age. She was just 19 when her son, Lucas, was born. But she got right back on the runway shortly afterward. "In two weeks after giving birth to Lucas, I was on the catwalk. I was so skinny and the clothes just sat on me incredibly and no one could believe it. Everyone wanted to put me in their shows. I did everything,” the model told Vanity Fair.

IYANLA VANZANT

Vanzant’s past is painful as she went through teen pregnancy and the death of that baby shortly after its birth. She also struggled with depression and more in that time. However, at 16, she had her son Damon. The author wrote about her experience in ‘Iyanla: Fix My Life’, “I was a single mom. Had my son when I was 16 years old and raised him, you know, the best I could. ... I taught him... everything I knew about life and living to the best of my ability."

REBECCA FERGUSON

In 2010, Ferguson got second place on the U.K. ‘X Factor’. Her childhood was also pretty complicated as she mostly lived in foster care and got pregnant at 17. "I was the one everyone thought wouldn't get pregnant because I was really quiet and shy," she told the Mirror. "It was a first boyfriend kind of thing, so people didn't see it coming. People thought I had talent and the attitude was, 'What are you doing with your life?' That was hard."

The world was shocked when Britney’s little sister, Jamie Lynn, announced her pregnancy. She was a star on the Disney Channel and just 16 years old at the time. The actress revealed that she took a pregnancy test at a gas station and that she was also ashamed of her situation because many young girls were her biggest fans.

Solange might not be as well-known as her sister, but she became a mother first. She got married early in life to Daniel Smith, and they had a son in 2004. The singer was just 18 years old back then. The couple split up a few years later, but Knowles is now re-married to Alan Ferguson.

The NBA legend did not have the best childhood either. He never got to know his father. So, when his girlfriend, Savannah, got pregnant, James was firm about stepping up despite being just 19 years old. They got married and share two kids.

The actress is best known as one of the Sands on ‘Game of Thrones’, and she also had a baby at the age of 17 with Bradley Hull. Castle-Hughes told People, “Once I found out I was pregnant there was no decision really. I was shocked but it was just like, ‘Okay, we are having a baby. That’s great.'”

The media mogul is known for not having children, but many people are not aware of her background. She suffered a traumatic experience at a very young age and got pregnant at 14. Hughes’s life shows that you can reach success, even if you get pregnant at a young age. At 16, she had her son, Alfred Liggins III, and was kicked out of her house.
